dos and don'ts as a job applicant

In this article, we’ll look at three things you should never do with your job application and as a job applicant.

What are three things you should never do at an interview?

To help you avoid the common mistakes involved when in the process of getting a job, we have discussed three things you should never do. And they include:

Lying on your resume during the job application

Your job application is so important and if you make a mistake from that point, you might have just ruined your hard work. One of the things you should never do is lie on your resume. No matter how obvious this seems, people still do it. If you are familiar with the saying, “nothing stays hidden forever,” then you should know better. Even if you end up getting the job, there’s so much certainty that the truth could be revealed one day. We advise that you avoid all forms of lying on your resume and stick to the truth and the truth alone.

Not Showing up for your interview

The next mistake you should avoid is not showing up. You have an interview planned for Friday and your interviewer is all set, but you aren’t. They reach out to you and you don’t respond. That’s a terrible way to go. Chances are you could meet that same interviewer somewhere else and end up missing the opportunity because of a past mistake. So why not avoid it today?

Giving a bad impression

Your first impression matters and bad impressions are a no-no. There are so many behaviors job seekers bring to the table during the hiring process. Some don’t dress properly. Some are disrespectful. Some come very late for their interviews and end up begging. Some don’t prepare ahead for the interview and so much more. You must avoid being among these “some” if you want to get that job.

Things You Should Do When in the Process of Getting a Job

We have looked at the things you should avoid doing. How about the things you should do? Well, trust us to handle it for you. Here are a few things you should do when next you start a job hunt.

Do your homework

We earlier talked about how some job seekers don’t prepare ahead for their interview, well you have to prepare to stand out. This will include researching the role, the company, and possible questions you could be asked. Practice, practice, and practice. Have a friend ask the questions to you and answer them as you would to your interviewer.

Dress properly

Dress how you want to be addressed—it never gets old. Whether you are having a virtual interview or a physical one, you must look and dress the part. Your first impression should matter. Dress neatly and properly organize all you’ll need for your interview.

Be punctual

Punctuality is one of those factors an interviewer will use to judge you. It matters so much because it shows how you’ll be punctual to work when you start working with them. We advise that you get to the location at least 30 minutes before the time of the interview. This will paint a good first impression and help you to relax ahead of time.

Behave properly

If you do all the above, then this one will work just fine. Be respectful to your hiring manager and avoid overtalking. Try to answer as many questions as you can truthfully. Smile in between but don’t turn the interview into a comedy show (maintain professionalism).

When in the process of getting a job, you must use the standard ethics for job hunting and avoid going against them.
