Every employee is likely to encounter a difficult coworker regardless of what industry they’re working in. The colleague that will always make your work more miserable than necessary assumes the position of a difficult coworker. But do you think difficult coworkers believe they are actually difficult? Sadly, anyone can be a difficult coworker without noticing it. Yes, it is reasonably normal to think you’re a great addition to your team – not knowing others are managing a difficult colleague dealing with you. Here are four (4) signs you are the coworker others are wishing not to have on board.
Signs You Are The Difficult Coworker
1. No colleague wants your help with projects
It is always pleasing to get more hands on your project and so do most workers. If you notice your colleagues don’t always want you involved in their projects, but somehow get other hands, there’s something more to turning down your offer. It could be that you’re more trouble than any amount of help you can provide.
2. Your meeting schedule is unusually free
Aside from the official meetings, employees do setup meetings to share ideas, could be one on one or a meeting involving colleagues in the same field. If you notice that your calendar is unusually open – no one invites you for such meetings or book to meet you at your office, then something may be wrong. It could mean your colleagues don’t want to work with you.
3. No one ever disagrees with you
Getting a share of conflicts is normal in any workplace, and that’s healthy. But if you find that none of your colleagues ever wants to disagree with your opinion, it doesn’t necessarily mean you are always saying the right thing. That could mean they have resolved it’s meaningless to argue with you, they rather not waste their time.
4. Colleagues never ask for your input on business matters
Even bosses at some point disclose some crucial business decisions to ascertain the best option. Workers tasked with major decisions will always solicit opinions from colleagues to further evaluate their decision. If you notice that your colleagues never ask for your input on business matters, it could be because you always approach such conversations inappropriately; with negativity or arrogance.
While it is necessary for employees to tolerate their colleagues, not everyone knows how to deal with a difficult coworker. And dealing with a difficult coworker does not imply compromising your job. Hence, all employees are charged to contribute towards a productive workplace environment by promoting a good work relationship, being a good listener and collaborator while also being open to other people’s idea.
If you are guilty of most signs discussed here, you’re likely the difficult coworker and should strive to become a better coworker. Developing positive relationships at your workplace is imperative to all kinds of success. Also, being an ideal coworker creates a milestone to any height you are aiming for in your career.
