Organizations are trying innovative ways to bring AI-spiced enrichments to their business and workforce, and the latest such strategy is the Jailbreak AI program at SharkNinja. According to a new announcement by the product design and technology company, the program invites employees to showcase the best use of AI to solve real business problems and present innovative integrations, with the program backed by $1 million in awards and grants.
Unlike what we typically hear about AI integration at work, SharkNinja is paying employees to innovate with AI and explore the full potential of the technology more deeply. This isn’t just a sign of the growing importance of artificial intelligence in the workplace, but also an example of how organizations can involve employees in the process of exploring the technology together.

Jailbreak SharkNinja: Getting Employees Excited About AI and Its Potential to Revolutionize the Workplace
Every organization has its own way of approaching change, and artificial intelligence is perhaps one of the biggest avenues of change and growth potential the professional sphere has seen in recent years. Jailbreak SharkNinja offers a new approach to AI adoption, where employees can explore the technology in their own departments and operations with the goal of seeking backing for their initiative with $1 million in awards and grants.
At the end of the year, winners of the challenge will be eligible for the top honor of securing the title of AI Application of the Year. This comes with a $100,000 prize for the individual or team that best represents the innovative potential of AI at the organization.
“We’re calling it Jailbreak because that’s exactly what AI does. It removes the constraints that slow people down and frees them to focus on work that actually matters,” Jason Schlossberg, Chief Communication Officer at SharkNinja, said in a post on LinkedIn. “Most companies treat culture and strategy as separate things. HR owns one. Leadership owns the other. Communications tries to translate and align both. At SharkNinja, they’re all the same thing, and Jailbreak is clear proof of that.”
Who Gets to Participate in SharkNinja’s Internal AI Challenge?
SharkNinja’s AI initiative doesn’t just center on its IT or Products team but is instead open to employees across every function, level, and region of its global operations. Employees can submit ideas on delivering measurable impact either individually or as a team, allowing them to work in a way that best suits them.
Talking about the decision to include the entire organization, Schlossberg credited its culture for facilitating such a unified exploration. “Our culture produced this program. SharkNinja launches more than 25 products a year. That velocity is possible because the people closest to a problem are expected to solve it without waiting for permission. That’s how the work gets done here,” he explained.
“Jailbreak applies that same operating principle to AI. Employees across every function and region are seeing inefficiencies and opportunities and building solutions on their own initiative,” he concluded on LinkedIn.
According to the announcement on the website, a panel of judges will be assigned to continuously review the submissions and pick out the best ideas. Not only does this offer the organization the opportunity to invest in one truly revolutionary application, but it also allows them to collect a number of other ideas for future exploration. No details were shared regarding any guidelines or restrictions for the Jailbreak SharkNinja AI challenge, but from the outside looking in, this remains a creative proposition.
The Employee AI Program Offers Many Benefits to the Business
As is evident from the terms of the challenge, SharkNinja’s AI adoption strategy for its workplace is certainly unique and presents an opportunity for innovation without restriction. At a time when businesses are counting every line of code generated as an estimation of employee performance or looking at AI usage levels for determining promotions, this AI experiment certainly stands out as a non-punitive approach to embracing change.
This gamification of AI exploration is a good way to motivate employees into exploring the technology willingly, removing any pressure of punishment for failing to impress with the application of its capabilities. Much like at Citi, where “AI Accelerators” or AI enthusiasts are leading the way for other employees to embrace AI, the Jailbreak SharkNinja AI program hinges on excitement and interest to promote the technology across its operations.
Employees who may have been slow to approach the tech may be tempted to experiment with it, thanks to the reward waiting at the other end of the road. Similarly, workers who prefer to work as a team may put their heads together more regularly, spurring on the teamwork within their daily operations.
SharkNinja’s $1M AI Experiment Presents a Unique Approach to Embracing Change
SharkNinja states that it believes “breakthrough ideas can come from anywhere in the organization,” and this could certainly be the case. Some might say that the $1 million price tag on the program looks excessive, but it’s likely that much of the expenses will be driven back into programs that benefit the organization. For businesses that are keen to utilize AI, such expenses are inevitable.
While SharkNinja is focused on AI adoption in the workplace with its Jailbreak challenge, other organizations can use similar strategies for other change management as well. Whether in terms of exploring product design or an award-winning marketing campaign, involving and exciting workers about the work is always a great way to build a strong business.
It may be too soon to tell if employees will actually end the year with standout applications of AI, especially considering there could be a limit to what can be achieved with technology. Despite this, the program is likely to end with better cohesion and internal understanding of the capabilities of AI, and that is a victory in itself.
