What to write in your Post-Interview Thank You Note

thank you note

Sometimes, it’s worth going an extra mile, especially when it comes to your job interviews. You may be thinking that there is no such thing as post-interview tasks and sending that note saying thank you is so old fashioned. But, like it or not, sending a thank you note is a must.

You might be feeling like a big shot after giving that interview when your resume was really well-written, your suit was finely pressed, you wore that special scent and smashed the behavioural questions. Aren’t you missing something? Yeah, it’s the post-interview thank you note that you should send to the interviewer – either through an email or a handwritten one.

Usually emailing the note will do, but if you feel that the interviewer will prefer a handwritten note, go ahead and write one. Do not add all the details that are already on your resume, tailor the letter based on your conversation with the interviewer instead. You can send a separate note to each of the interviewers. Including a link to your personal branding website may drastically increase your chances of making a positive impression.

Here is a sample Thank you letter that you can refer to before writing your own:

Dear [Interviewer’s Name]:

Thank you for taking the time to meet with me and discuss the position of [Job profile that you’ve applied for] at [Company Name].

The interview questions were really thought provoking and have reinforced my aspiration to join your innovative and hard-working team. I have been searching for a role with a company that was not only inspiring but also motivated collaboration and I was very excited to hear from your team about their experiences with [Company Name].

I am confident that my organizational skills and experience in [whatever skills are required] will make me a perfect fit for the current position. I look forward to the likelihood of exploring future joint projects.

Please feel free to contact me if there is any information that I can provide or queries that I can answer.

Again, it was a pleasure meeting you and your team at the interview. Thank you for your consideration and time.
